Still using training wheels? 🚲

Remember the first time riding your bike with training wheels? Those little wheels that when your dad went to take them off, you had a moment of panic?

You trusted those wheels, because you KNEW your bike wouldn’t tip over and you wouldn’t fall!

Do you remember how accomplished it felt to ride without training wheels?

Now, you could bike so much faster without cumbersome training wheels attached!

Training wheels. Needed at first. Even if they slowed you down. Preparing you to ride your bike smoothly and more quickly.

When your child is stuck on sounding out words, it's like riding your bike with training wheels on. Yes, you're biking, but not yet riding smoothly or at full speed.

It’s time to boost your kiddo’s blending skills so that he/she can progress from saying '/ch/ - /a/ - /p/' to just saying the word ‘chap’.

This is not necessarily a reading issue, but here are 3 strategies to boost your child’s ability to blend sounds to quickly say and read whole words as a beginning reader:

  • successive blending
  • onset-rime
  • oral phonemic awareness practice

Blending is one of the six phonics skills I guide you through in my course, TEACH YOUR CHILD TO READ: Confidently Model Simple Phonics Skills at Home!

You can teach your daughter to blend sounds, so that she can become a fluent reader. No longer stuck on individual sounds in words!
